Today, we will be bringing you an another release from the most innovative metal band on the planet; HENRY METAL. Well, Henry Metal is no longer an unrecognizable band for me along with so many fans. Their music, sound, style, artworks, videos and all the other things which represent this Henry Metal brand make them unique in what they are doing. Working this hard and releasing four full-length studio albums in one year is an achievement that everybody should respect no matter what the result is. I definitely do. Because this is insane. As I also wrote on my previous Henry Metal articles, their genuine approach to the music that I admire the most. And when I see this progress, I willingly or unwillingly start to compare this band’s artistic value with the other bands out there. You cannot expect every band or musician to release dozens of albums every year, I am aware of this. However, the approach to the music reminds me of some writers and painters in the history where they had zero expectation of fame, popularity or recognization. They were just living their art, their dreams, just like Henry Metal is trying to do here.

Metal O’Clock is a very dynamic Hard Rock/Metal album. When I compare everything with Henry Metal’s previous releases, So It Hath Begun, Wizard vs. Demon and The Maestro Abides, the first thing that caught my attention was the theme of Metal O’Clock, the artwork. It still has the classic Henry Metal style, but the general look has a darker, more focused theme. When I saw the album artwork before listening to the songs, I thought this album probably has more like minor oriented melodies, depressive atmosphere or a darker vibe. Of course, this was an another Henry Metal trick. As you also might know, they love surprising everybody with their unusual strategies and moves.

On the other hand, Metal O’Clock album also has more rock elements than the previous albums. This made me think about their sound progression actually, are they going to be more like rock’n’roll in future? Who knows.. Wizard vs. Demons album is more like a Traditional Metal, Traditional Thrash Metal album with a Megadeth, Demons&Wizards influence. This delicious taste still exists in Metal O’Clock but with more mid-tempo, less distorted, high gained sound, like AC/DC. Besides, I can clearly see that they are improving themselves in every aspect except the recording quality. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the recording quality of this album as bright as Wizard vs Demon and So It Hath Begun. Metal O’Clock has more raw sound with fewer effects. I don’t want to be misunderstood here, the recording quality is not that good compared to Henry Metal’s standard. This doesn’t mean the overall album sound is not good enough, it is. They still have a very natural and clear instrument sound with more raw feeling this time. Again, we are talking about a band who will be releasing their fourth album. I am sure they know what they are doing and all these are their own decisions. Because I accept them as experienced musicians and artists.

The album begins with a punk-ish, hard rock song. When you look at what Henry Metal is doing without going deeper about them, everything might look goofy to you. But when you listen to them very carefully, read the lyrics and try to understand what Henry Metal is trying to do here, it is kinda genius. Also, the titles, “Addicted to Junk”, “Thank God for the Government”, “Plastic Surgery” are kinda unusual. Henry Metal was talking about things in his funny way before. This time they have a little bit more like a protest attitude which I am really glad to see from them. This suits them well. I personally like more thrashy Henry Metal songs and sound. And the reason is that I saw their potential in creating new melodies in an old-fashioned way. We all change in time and right now I am very curious about where Henry Metal’s sound going to evolve into…

Ultimately, I am glad to hear an another release from Henry Metal. We all got used to expecting an album release from our Metal Music heroes such as Megadeth and Iron Maiden every year. This always has been a huge excitement for all of us. Right now, Henry Metal is doing the same thing and I must admit, this is very cool. In my opinion metal music scene needs new music, fresh melodies, and new ideas. Thus, I recommend everyone to listen to all Henry Metal records if you like Megadeth, and AC/DC. Especially the traditional old-fashioned rock and metal sound. I am sure you will be grateful for this moment that you are here, looking at this screen and reading this article right now! Thanks for reading.

Henry Metal Interview

1 – Henry Metal is going to be in the Guinness World Records if they continue like this, don’t you think?

Ha, no I think Buckethead and Frank Zappa have us beat…

2 – Congratulations with your new release Metal O’Clock! How did you manage this? How did you come up with all these ideas in a very short time?

Thanks. I think a record about Vikings, plastic surgery and raging against how dumb and ass-backwards the world is kind of writes itself, no? To give an example, the last flight I was on, the TSA took my face moisturizer because it turns out, and you may not know this but, the cream is actually a weapon of mass frickin’ terror. That prompted me to think about all the great things our government does for us and write a thank you song called Thank God for the Government.

3 – How do you describe your songwriting skill and this year’s influence on you guys? Is 2017 somehow special for you?

2017 was a great year to make a bunch of metal records and cool videos. It was special because I got to learn about the current scene and realize how many ridiculously talented people there are out there making tunes and videos and artwork and graphic art and everything else that goes along with the music scene.

4 – How do you describe Metal O’Clock? What did you want to achieve with this release in Henry Metal’s career?

Metal O’Clock sounds maybe a touch more on the slick side of things than the first 3 records, but only because I think the sound is starting to really gel and come together now. The goal was really to get better and to find out where this whole Henry Metal thing is going and possibly see some more possibilities come into view both musically and thematically.

5 – Do you compare the new Henry Metal with the old? What differences do you see and where this path going to take Henry Metal? I mean, is the Henry Metal’s sound going to be more thrashy, or rocky, or more political or somewhere else?

I don’t like to kill the ideas by knowing what they’re going to sound like or judging them before they come to life. I always think it’s funny that people judge what’s “metal” and “not metal.” That’s not very open minded, not very cool, not very Metal.. For me the difference between a metal song and a shitty rock song, besides killer arpeggios and blast beats, is whether it was allowed to be born genuinely or whether it was calculated. Heart and balls beat brains all day.

6 – What were your biggest influences for this album? and why?

I started listening to some Viking music, Amon Amarth and stuff like that, and I had an awakening to just how badass Vikings truly are. They also have a really cool melodic thing happening musically which I dig underneath the good old death growl. Also been thinking a lot about Stanley Kubrick for some reason. He made stuff the way he wanted to, not the way he thought other people wanted him to.

7 – I am sure there are some Henry Metal fans out there who are dying to see you live, do you have any plans about this?

Yeah, we’re going to do something at some point. Don’t know what yet, we’re only six months old really. Might be a cool half Deadmaus DJ half metal band thing with some hot chicks dancing around and some chainsaws and flame throwers and swords and stuff. Haven’t figured it out but that’s what I’d like it to be. We also need to have enough fans in each city to pay for the dancers and flames which could take awhile. Also, I’d like to ride in on a white steed for sure. Either way, when and if it happens I want it to be epic, big league and big time.

Let me also say this, when it comes to California shows I’ve got a buddy in a band called Lostpray that will be my first call to put something legit together.

8 – Henry Metal is releasing another remarkable album now, what did you learn so far from what you have done? Did your thoughts about music, music industry, life and other things which are connected to music have changed since you started Henry Metal?

I’ve kind of learned to stop thinking about stuff because everything I think is always wrong, with pretty much 100% certainty. Although, if I think a thing then at least I can put that thought into the “wrong” bin so I don’t have to waste time thinking it later, which is nice. As far as the industry goes, I think we’re at an all time low for being an artist which should be a great time to get in. Although, since everything I think is wrong, that’s probably some bullshit too.

9 – Tell us about the band`s future plans.

Near term, I think it’s time for a little break, maybe go get a turkey avacado club from Jason’s Deli. Longer term, “Henry Metal V” is up on the boards and being created as we speak. Look for this to be cray-cray awesome.

10 – Lastly, what would you like to say to our readers?

I want to say keep on rockin’ and keep reading Heavy Metal T-Shirts, the best metal mag on the internet.
