Dead Friends 46 is a powerful old-fashioned band I have discovered about a few weeks ago with their latest release; Hardcore, which was released in 2018. The band is climbing up the stairs one by one, doing a fine job (as far as I read) so far in their hometown, also my previous neighborhood; Fullerton. They claim that they are a hardcore punk band inspired by 80’s giants, which you can clearly hear from the record. As I always do, I have listened to Hardcore a couple times before writing my article. Metalheads can find many different reasons to like this music without a doubt, but what I liked and also enjoyed the most was the Motorhead and Metallica (especially the Kill’em All era) vibes in the music. Always feels great to hear this fantastic sound once again by a band with the right attitude, such as these fellas. “The Right Attitude” might sound like a small detail to you, but I believe in the importance of the attitude of the artist. Imagine Dream Theater playing Motorhead, it might be an interesting thing. Hands down. But I don’t think it would energetically satisfy anybody as they expect. These Californian gentlemen are pretty impressive at aggression. The music, style, the way they play and the energy coming from the vocalist (reminded me of Phil Anselmo from the greatest times of Pantera) are all together creating a big impact, to be honest, and probably this is where Dead Friends 46′ strength/impact is coming from.

Song builds are usually pretty standard. In many ways, they have kept the traditional style. Consciously or unconsciously all these songs are making a difference with their brutal energy, attitude and of course with the vocals. Every single song has the same kind of frequency as we used to hear from Metallica’s Kill’Em All and many Motorhead albums. They have followed the same path with their ancestors in this way and ended up with a quite impressive conclusion. Hardcore, is an old-fashioned massive sounding album where you don’t need to go into details, in my opinion. As metalheads, we all love this music, sound and the power inside. So I think the interest will be quite high for Dead Friends 46’s music, without a doubt.

The music, in general, does not offer anything too technical. As I have also mentioned above, this kind of music is more about the energy, the feeling. These gents went into a room, jammed as hell, brilliantly caught all their strong feelings into this record. I personally love this kind of music so much just like many of you. Motorhead has invaded the world with their overflowing energy. Lemmy was a genius, he knew he can make his fans to feel the same way he does through his music, and he did. So if you are into fresh sounding bands with traditional style, Dead Friends 46 is what you are looking for. Every time I listen to bands like this I try to imagine them playing live. This is where our beloved music derived from, this very feeling. When I take all these into account, I’d like to say that I am very happy with my discovery of Dead Friends 46. They have reminded me and my friends here with me of those golden times. I believe that they have the potential for more, and I am looking forward to hearing more from them in the future.
