FRETMIDEN Dynamic Equilibrium Song Review

Lately, I started to come across many bands with this kind of drop-tuned, technical oriented music style. And this makes me feel like this is probably what the future of metal will sound like. Robotic riffs, poor melodies and musical sentences just like a binary code; 0-1-0-1… I personally don’t listen to this genre that much. However, I have the utmost respect for Meshuggah, and their musical invention. Fretmiden’s latest album opener track; Dynamic Equilibrium is definitely one of the good examples of this vast Meshuggah influence. On the other hand, it is wonderful to see how many people are looking for a way to renovate their musical expressions. In this example, djent can answer their calls only for some time, in my humble opinion. Because, djent is a style that requires high technical and musicianship skills. Some might compare it with some other traditional genres, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Just when I take all these into account, I can see that this genre is soon to be evolved into something greater by talented, young and ambitious musicians such as Fretmiden.

Omen, is Fretmiden’s debut album, which was released not long ago, November 10, 2017. First of all, I have to admit that the recording quality of Dynamic Equilibrium is flawless. The sound of the song is like an electroshock gun. Exceptional sound balancing. Guitars sound bold and neat, drums sound supernatural, vocals have the standard sound level in this genre just like in Gojira’s and Meshuggah’s music. This is the most common sound balance example in this genre. In addition, the song is super dynamic with great energy. This great sound and the energy in Dynamic Equilibrium makes you wanna bang until the end of the song. As I have also mentioned above, this is a very good job for a debut album where Fretmiden truly shows great potential.
