Paul Maged is another promising traditional hard rock artist that Metalhead Community Blog readers might remember from his previous release; The Glass River. After the successful release of The Glass River not long ago in 2018, Paul Maged is here with us with a brand new single; The Resistance. First of all, I would like to say that I have a huge respect for solo artists such as Paul Maged. I know how challenging writing, recording and releasing a material can be. The Resistance is a meaningful song, summarizes and mirrors us from Paul’s perspective what really has been going on around us politically for some time. Obviously, it touched Paul along with the millions of Americans and the rest of the world (including me). It has become his motive, his fuel to write these words and music about it.

The song, in general, has the Paul Maged vibe in general. The composition is pretty standard, built up with some classic rock riffs and sharp lyrics. I also felt some Acdc vibes coming especially from the guitar riffs. After listening to the song a couple times as I always do, honestly, I couldn’t feel anything powerful as I expected. In my opinion, the most powerful thing (musically) in this example for me was Paul’s vocals. He has the proper rock singing style, a dirty voice and his performance in this song blew me away. This is something interesting for me because his talent at singing didn’t catch my attention on his previous album this much. On the other hand, the composition for me was too traditional. I thought about it for some time. I am not sure if it’s because of the riffs, the energy, the tempo or the music video. This is a meaningful song, I get that, but I am afraid the video didn’t have the same frequency, anything common with the music at all. It can be a meaningful collage, but with all respect, if it is not contributing to the overall impact of the song then its worthless and pointless to me.

Technically the song does not offer high standards in anything except the sound balancing. The drum kit sounds good in general, but it is more like a software than natural drums. The producer has done a brilliant balance between everything. As I have mentioned above, I loved how he handled Paul’s vocals. It sounds so powerful, clean, clear, natural with a proper dose of effect. Most of the time it is super easy to tell the difference between good and poor productions. In this example, all the instruments sound good, vocals are amazing but you can’t get the impact as you should. When I take all these into account, I can honestly say that I am convinced by Paul’s talent and ability when I first listened to his previous album The Glass River. This song musically carries his specific vibe, but I can’t say it has the same level as his abilities. In the end, it is always good to hear fresh music from artists like Paul Maged.
