Today, we will feature an amazing band; SKUNK OIL, from Boston, USA. We have reviewed their song; Ritual, along with its style, potential, story, recording quality, production rate and more.

Skunk Oil is a promising (!) upcoming band that I have discovered about two weeks ago while looking for some stuff online. They have just released their second single; Ritual, on the 22nd of June. And I have already made up my mind about featuring these gentlemen after hearing their music once.

First of all, I want to say that it was the energy of their music what caught my full attention. It is so massive and powerful. The live recording vibe is very trendy nowadays. Every upcoming band and artist are more eager to have this feeling in their recordings, which is totally understandable. It sounds more natural. However, there is a small detail that everybody needs to keep in mind that the music you do should fit with the vibe. In this example, Skunk Oil has the old-fashioned hard/indie/dirty rock genre which once ruled the world, and sounds magical as live recording. When I heard the song for the first time, it reminded me of Nirvana’s game changer song; Smells Like the Teen Spirit. This is not a criticism, I see it from the bright side. These gentlemen should be very proud to have this level of energy in their music. This is something that you cannot plan or foresee. It happens naturally. And believe me, it always happens to the right people.

The recording quality and the production were excellently done. Hands down. This is what people call “top class production”. I am listening to tons of new music every day and this is one of the very few, the best production from this genre. Everything sounds super clean, clear, powerful, natural and very well balanced. I fell in love with their drum sound. As you also know, having a great sound quality is certainly one of the key factors to have the right impression of your music. In this matter, Ritual deserves the top mark from our team with no doubt. Brilliant job.

Usually, we don’t expect to see too high standards from upcoming bands. The thing that we are looking for are mostly the potential, style, ability and the passion to go until the end. There are so many brilliant minds and artists around the globe and we all know how many of them are able to get their names and music heard. When I consider Skunk Oil as an upcoming band, I can see how professionally they have managed everything about their brand. Their looks, pictures, graphics, music, production etc… These might look like small details to you at first but building a professional career is a long-term marathon. Professionals from the industry see these details and take all these into account before making their decisions about bands. In this matter, Skunk Oil have certainly made a difference with the team behind them, and also a clear statement with their two released single albums. Everyone, including me, is waiting to hear more about Skunk Oil in future in order to have a solid opinion about the band. Honestly, I am well impressed by the things I have heard so far. We all going to see what the future has in store.
